Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 10:15 PM

It's been a busy morning. We took the family to the Merrimack Y where Michelle & I took a Step class. Then we took 'em to Payless to buy them shoes for my brother's wedding. Now we're at Chunky's for lunch & to see "Shrek". 11:43am

I had no idea that "Shrek 4" had an "It's a Wonderful Life" theme. 1:03pm

Just noticed. I now have 603 Facebook Notes. And I live "In The 603" (local slang for New Hampshire). Yes, simple minds like mine ARE easily amused. :-]. 3:09pm

Downloading "Chuck vs the Honeymooners" for my girls and the new Doctor Who, "Cold Blood", for me. 6:36pm

Transcoding an excellent video clip from the episode of "Chuck" we watched tonight. Whoa-dog my laptop's getting mighty toasty! Have I mentioned how Handbrake uses both cores in the CPU? 9:44pm

Well, I learned a few skills tonight and enjoyed another episode of "Chuck" with Michelle and the girls. The girls have to serve 7am Mass tomorrow so good night all! 10:10pm

Bookmarks I made today:

Smartbooks Are Dying On the Vine. That's Dumb.
Comment: I remember when our CEO showed one of these several months back. But with all of the recent buzz about tablets, these may never get off the ground.
Excerpt: What if I told you there was an ultralight device that put all the functionality of a powerful tablet into the thinnest, lightest laptop you ever saw? It exists. It could be great. And it's dying before its time.

Peggy Noonan: He Was Supposed to Be Competent
Comment: Peggy concludes with "Because, ironically enough, of a hard core of truth within their [the Republican's] own philosophy: When you ask a government far away in Washington to handle everything, it will handle nothing well."
Excerpt: They thought Katrina was the result only of George W. Bush's incompetence and conservatives' failure to "believe in government." But Mr. Obama was supposed to be competent.

Not exactly Mother Teresa
Excerpt: Should corporate ethics principles apply only to profit-making companies? Or should they also cover nonprofit corporations, especially those that badger for-profits to be more “socially responsible”?

Tall Ships arrive in Portsmouth
Comment: A photo gallery. We might go see these tomorrow. I think it's only $25 for a family.
