Painting is done, weekend is here...

I tried to write an entry earlier today in between tasks at work. I went out for a bite of lunch with co-workers, as I often do. Somewhere during the lunch there must have been a power glitch. When I got back my workstation was back at the login prompt with my partial log entry lost. “If a trainstation is where a train comes to a stop, what does that make a workstation?”

The painters did a great job yesterday. Between the freshly painted walls and the knickknacks that Michelle has recovered from the moving boxes, the house is really starting to feel more like a home. This weekend we'll be hanging things up on the walls. Because of the lack of rain these past few weeks, I won't need to worry about cutting the grass. I was going to let the grass grow out a bit anyway. The middle setting for the lawn mower was still a bit too short for summertime heat.

The twins got another haircut. This is the shortest I've seen their hair. They could go into the marines. Michelle figured it would likely be the last haircut they got before going to Chicago. Their hair will grow in a bit between now and then.

I've modified the default template for this webpage. I was trying to make it faster to load and render with minimal affect on the overall look and feel. I'll be doing some comparisons soon. The changes are barely noticeable on a broadband connection (and indeed not worth it) but for dialup connections and/or slow computers, it could make a significant difference. I've been reading about webpage design, especially at UseIT.com. The writers emphasis is on intuitiveness and responsiveness.

I'm writing this on the ol' linux laptop. In the process of getting more stuff out of boxes, I dug out this wimpy Pentium 133 laptop with 32Mbytes of RAM. Our printer is technically more powerful than this machine. And yet, for the fundamentals, surfing, writing, emails, tinkering, etc. it fits the bill.
