iGal is back up and running

I'll be taking down the album I did a couple of weeks ago. I did a replacement album in the traditional iGal style that should load much faster. When I peeled the onion (problem) down to the last layer, I found a key issue that I didn't notice before. Either the OS or Photoshop Elements (or both) is putting a lot of comments into the image files. That's fine for local storage, but made loading the online thumbnails reaaalllly slow. I wrote a small script that strips the excess bloat out of the online version of the thumbnails and images using the unix command jpegtran. Now the pictures should load significantly faster than a couple of weeks ago.

I do have some new pictures in the camera that I'm looking forward to processing. Perhaps I can work on them tonight after the girls go down to bed. I just really wanted to get album generation back up and running quickly.

I can now log into my home Mac from wherever, including the office. This can be useful if I need to help Michelle out remotely. It was scary to see it running a web server as well. I won't broadcast the address of my home mac because I can't say it'll be up anyware near 24 hours a day/7 days a week. I usually shut it off at night. I get less shortwave radio interference that way...useful when trying to pick up EWTN radio without a lot of static and noise.

Hey, even Doonesbury is poking fun at the weblogging craze ! I love how at times a comic strip can say more than an entire op-ed piece.
