Christmas approaches

Posted by Scott at 04:16 PM

I'm thankful that the shopping was done several weeks ago before Thanksgiving. It's allowed us to enjoy these weekends without feeling like we have to fight the crowds at the malls and stores. We've seen a lot of classic movies, read stories, and lit many fires in the fireplace. On the warmer days, like today, we can go for walks and play a bit outside.

I've got one day of work left and then I'm off for the holiday vacation. It looks like it's going to be a green Christmas -- ironic for New Hampshire. I'm looking forward to when we get some decent snow so that we can do some sledding down the hill in the back corner of the yard.

I had another one of those "can't believe you spent that much money on something so boring" moments this past week. The car needed new tires. They weren't bare but in this weather, you don't want to skimp on treads. We've had several days these past couple of weeks where the roads have been sloppy with slushy snow and sleet during commute time. I drive about a dozen miles each way to and from work every day, much of it at highway speeds on main roads. The hard part was that this is by far the most I've ever spent on a set of tires. Tires for Escorts, Saturns, etc. are quite reasonable compared to the wide V-series tires they put on V-6 Accords. I suppose it could be worse. Z-series tires that are used on sports cars are really an arm and a leg.

We've rented a bunch of movies for the upcoming days. We watched The Fox and The Hound this afternoon while the boys were napping. The little ones also watched the Blue Clues movie. I didn't know one existed, but it came in handy to distract Daniel when he was feeling a bit grumpy. I don't know who gets to be more embarrassed about their profession -- the guy who plays Steve on Blues Clues or the men who play the Wiggles on Playhouse Disney. Browsing the store shelves I came across the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie that came out a few years ago. I'd forgotten all about that movie. BlockBuster also had Minority Report which I've been meaning to see.
