Some Assembly Required

Posted by Scott at 10:21 PM

I haven't written much the past few days. I've been stealing away my spare time working on assembling the girls' gifts. Each one takes about five hours. Last night I watched The 40-Year-Old Virgin while assembling and tonight I watched My Man Godfrey. The former was a funny, but crude movie from summer 2005. The latter is a 1936 screwball comedy aimed at depression era audiences. I came close to watching Serenity, which arrived today. Alas I have one more night's worth of work. Perhaps I'll watch it then.

It's funny. Every time I know I have to work on them, at first I'm tired and reluctant. Excuses and rationalizations jump to mind. However once I get all the stuff together, I dig in and just keep going. It's that initial hurdle of talking yourself into it that's the hardest part. I guess life is that way in general. We spend an awful lot of time convincing ourselves that we don't even want to get started on something we know we have to do. Still, I'm glad I didn't procrastinate these until this weekend. Those would have been some sleepless nights.

Otherwise it's been a usual week. Abigail had her craft class at the Souhegan Valley Boys and Girls Club on Monday evening. Claire had piano lessons tonight. I went to the gym for step classes at lunch on Monday and Wednesday. Wednesday's classes are always nice because Michelle leads it. You might say it's a very different kind of 'nooner' altogether. (ahem) I picked Michelle up a cute pink hoodie with "YMCA" spelled out in block letters as I left today. You can't go wrong buying your wife cozy stuff in late December. Tuesday my co-workers and I finally got around to watching Office Space during our office "lunch hour". Tomorrow (Thursday) we'll have our lunch catered by Giorgio's as part of our office Christmas celebration. Tomorrow night Michelle will teach a CCD class. From there schedules should lighten up. Unlike my negligence of Halloween, I'll try to remember to have my camera handy on Christmas.

Welcome to Winter! It's officially here today — the shortest daylight of the year. The Winter Solstice. And we've already burned over a ton of wood before it was officially winter. Just thinking about that makes cabin fever creep closer.
