Photo Album

Click to see the albumPhotos - I had a little time this evening and decided to pull the pictures out of my camera. Most are from the party the boys had a couple of weekends ago.

Saturday - Mom and dad settled in today after a good night's rest. Heck, I slept better knowing that they were safe. We all went to Leda Lanes for candlepin bowling this morning and then went to Grand Buffet for lunch. Mom and dad got a kick out of watching our kids bowl. Timothy and Daniel both bowl with such abandonment. I wish I could video it. It's a testimony to how random candlepin is for rank amateurs such as ourselves: Timothy and I tied for first place. The kids did a few rounds of sledding when we got back. I went with mom and dad to a late afternoon Mass. Michelle will take the girls early tomorrow morning and we'll all meet for breakfast afterwards. Dad and I wrapped up the evening watching the movie Flyboys on DVD.

Friday - I don't think I mentioned this earlier. Friday marked one year of working at ATI, now wholly owned subsidiary of AMD. I've adjusted fairly well to the drive. The extensive use of podcasts and audiobooks helps an enormous amount. The work has been interesting and the co-workers good. To this day my boss and I can not get over just how complex it is to wrap your brain around all the aspects of a modern graphics core. If you ever worry about getting into a tech job that becomes rote because you master it in a few months, don't worry in this role.

Wii - The Wii is back from Nintendo and working fine. There's a known bug between the Wii, my Linksys cable gateway router, and my Comcast cable provider but there is a workaround. Once implemented the Wii downloaded its updates and has been rock solid. I haven't downloaded any of their legacy games via their virtual console, but I did browse a bit. I did download the freely available beta of their web browser. The nifty thing about the browser is that it also supports the popular Adobe/Macromedia Flash format. Among other things, you can surf YouTube on it and watch those silly low fidelity Flash format videos on your TV via the Wii. Since Claire and I just recently watched Men in Black on DVD, I showed her the video from the theme song via YouTube on the Wii. The kids got a kick out of seeing the alien sing and dance in that video. Since we were on a Will Smith theme, I also brought up the video from the Wild Wild West theme song. From alien law enforcement to wild west gunmen... he's come a long way from being the Fresh Prince, eh?

Great pics, but what's the deal with the bathing suits in February?
Also, Cass wants to know...if you find a Wii while Mom and Dad are there, can someone purchase it and send it back with Mom & Dad? Cass will reimburse whomever!
Glad everyone is safe! Have a great Sunday. We'll be going to St. Cyp's 80th Anniversary Mass and to a birthday party for Connor.
Oh- let M & D know that the workers worked today- all the drywall is up, now it's gonna get messier!
Later,
Lys

Hi Lys,

Re: the bathing suits. Well, I don't know about your area, but the big box stores here seem to be selling them now. I, too, find it hard to think about swimsuits when we're hitting our lowest temperatures of the season.

Re: a Wii. Sure. If we see another one, we'll call you and purchase one. If you find one, call us right away so that we don't. We were at a local GameStop yesterday browsing games, but I didn't check if they had any Wii consoles available. I did see plenty of PS3's though, stacked and ready for sale. *smirk* (In response to allegations of sagging sales, the head of Sony USA recently claimed that they were flying off the shelves and customers are hard pressed to find them.) But yes, we'll keep our eyes open if we go to any malls/stores in the next few days while they're here.

Re: 80th anniversary. Wow! Seems like just yesterday we were posing for pictures for the 50th, eh?

Re: the construction. If they can keep things reasonably partitioned, it won't be TOO bad. It does tend to create some drywall dust. Glad you have a new vacuum.

Hi Lys,

I forgot to mention — Abby and the boys are enjoying the Diddy Kong Racing DS that you sent for the boys' birthdays. The network gaming feature on it works well for them to play together. It's a bit like MarioKart but you also have vehicles like boats and planes in addition to cars. It's too bad they never released a version for the GameCube. Years ago it had been on the Nintendo64 but has been absent from the 'cube and the Wii.

I love the pics. And your cat! Good gosh is he a hoot or what? I love the pics of him in the sink and chair.

Looks like the boys had great bdays and the girls will look very stylish this summer in the suits.
