Good morning! I dropped our girls off at school & head down to Boxborough. Before I left Michelle noted the irony that she bought a new, larger gas engine mower on Earth Day. When she went to the dump to see if there was a place for still working equipment, they said no, it would be trashed. Something about state regs. So, wanting it to be re-used, she left it along our curb with a "Free" sign and someone took it.
Installed the Microsoft DirectX SDK this morning, primarily for the DirectX Texture Tool utility it includes. The entire SDK is over a gigabyte. That's almost the size of the entire Microsoft Visual Studio Pro suite of developer tools!! [Tongue-in-cheek: who knew multimedia was so complicated?!]
Geeky alert: Roses are #FF0000. Violets are #0000FF. All my base are belong to you!
Man, the more I look at how easily Facebook changes their Privacy Guidelines, the more I'm considering a different microblogging site. It used to be teens preferred Facebook over Twitter because they liked the privacy. Now, unless you're obsessive about your account settings, Facebook privacy is an illusion.
sigh Finally back home and ready for the weekend. I really enjoyed listening to more of Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina" on the way home. He was such an excellent writer. It's a long book (~3x "Wuthering Heights"), but I'm enjoying every minute of it.
My daily driver goes in for its 80K service late next week. The winter snow tires on their cheap steel rims come off, four new all season tires mounted on the alloys, balancing, four wheel alignment, timing belt, water pump, and oil change. Cha-CHING! There's a reason I procrastinated after the minivan downpayment...
Going to relax with my wife and girls and watch a little season 2 "Chuck". We're down to the last DVD of season 2 -- only 2 episodes left. Next one is the season finale.
Bookmarks I made today:
Jonah Goldberg: Capitalism vs. Capitalists
Excerpt: The problem with socialism is socialism, because there are no socialists. Socialism is a system based upon an assumption about human nature that simply isn't true. [...] At the end of the day it is entirely natural for humans to work the system -- any system -- for their own betterment, whatever kin...
ThinkGeek :: Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock
Comment: OMGoodness! A co-worker came in today with this t-shirt. It's the kind of thing you have to regularly watch "Big Bang Theory" to understand. So yes, there are plenty of geeks at Qualcomm R&D, why do you ask?
Excerpt: We'll be honest here. We hadn't heard of Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock until that episode of The Big Bang Theory. You could say that prior to that day we were traditional roshamboists.
Video - Star Wars Uncut "The Escape" - Movies
Comment: Sure to give Tom Tarpey Jr. and John Bilik a good laugh...
Excerpt: I'm thrilled to release "The Escape," a teaser from the finished Star Wars Uncut: A New Hope movie. Hundreds of 15 second scenes were put back together in a finished film thanks to the work of several people...
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Comment: In video game news: only one month left till SMG2 comes out (May 23rd). Abby is so excited. She completed the original SMG and all three versions of Paper Mario ever made. I ordered this SMG2 on June 7th, 2009. My loooongest Amazon pre-order evah.
Excerpt: Launch into a new universe of gravity warping worlds in the sequel to one of the greatest games of all time! Yoshi joins Mario as they traverse a wild variety of galaxies exploding with imagination, helping out our hero as he gulps enemies, runs at super speed, or inflates like a blimp to reach high...
