Short Updates

Good morning! I watched the last parts of the BBC's miniseries: The Nativity. While the setting and the acting was good, I didn't like that it portrayed Mary as doubting the Annunciation even happened until she saw that Elizabeth was with child. It also portrayed Joseph as not believing Mary was faithful until just moments before the birth. Both were major annoyances for me. 7:20am

Video: Great moments in unintended consequences. 7:46am

Michelle went to teach her 20/20/20 class at Golds. I stayed back with the boys. I cleaned the primary wood stove out while we all watched Herbie Goes Bananas on the TiVo. 11:28am

Time to take down the lightsWhen Michelle got back, she made us all lunch and we watched "How to Train Your Dragon" which we got on DVD for Christmas. Afterwards the boys got their sleds out and I drove to pick Michelle and I up some hot drinks. 2:00pm

After I was folding some of the never ending supply of laundry, we decided to take down all of the Christmas decorations except for the tree and put them in storage until next year. The cats were all excited because they got to check out the dark, unfinished portion of the basement. The weekend after Epiphany when the girls are back home we'll take the tree down. 3:23pm

Watched Dr. Who: The Idiot's Lantern. Boy, that was creepy! People watching tv and having their faces removed. 4:44pm

Since I've been experimenting with ArchLinux - what you might call the un-Ubuntu because it's not pushbutton simple - I decided to take a look at lightweight window managers for Linux. The other night I built fluxbox, which I used to use back at AMD/ATI. Now I'm looking at an even leaner one: dwm, a window manager in less than 2000 source lines of code. It's so geeky. It has no configuration files. Instead you modify one of the source files with configuration and preference data. The is about as niche and un-user-friendly as it gets! If Ununtu+Gnome is a plush Cadillac, ArchLinux+dwm is the 1970's Triumph with a 4 speed stick shift. 5:41pm

Got the boys tucked in bed with their prayers. Michelle spoke with the girls and it sounds as though they're having a lot of fun in Indianapolis. I loaded a couple of movies on Michelle's Hackintosh netbook for tomorrow's visit to Nashua Oncology. Between it and her Kindle, she should keep entertained. It'll be just me 'n the boys tomorrow for a large portion of the day. I'm brainstorming on ways to keep 3D movie glasses attached to Timothy with his one ear. Perhaps eyeglass straps?? I'd love to see one of the many 3D movies out these days. Enough tinkering for now. Good night all! 9:20pm
