Atheros, It Just Works

I love that our marketing guys have a sense of humor and don't take themselves too seriously. Video: The Bug Circus Generator. 5:44am

Good morning! New England is really starting to hit its autumn foliage peak. I dropped the girls off at their schools and head over to Cafe on the Oval for a quick breakfast. Also needed to fuel up. I have a new commute warrior benchmark: $100 of fuel bought over 1250 miles of travel. That beats air travel! Anyway I enjoyed more of my audio book while taking in the colorful leaves on the commute into Boxborough. 9:15am

Got the things I wanted working at the office today. More enhancements in the pipeline tomorrow. As I was about to head out I got a call from Claire that she couldn't contact the house for a lift home. I offered to pick her up unless she got through to someone. As I was midway home I got the call from Michelle that somehow her phone was powered off but that she was picking Claire up. I enjoyed another few chapters of "The Diamond Age" during the commute. 5:55pm

After dinner Timothy and I installed the 802.11n WiFi card in his rejuvenated old tower. I'm so glad that we bought a card based on the Atheros WiFi chips. In Unix/Linux the Atheros chips tend to "just work" without a lot of handholding and Googling up on "how to make xxx work". (I'm looking at you Broadcom!) And bonus, Atheros is a part of Qualcomm. So we plugged it in, put the case back on, booted Arch Linux and it recognized it right away. Shweet! His tower setup is now doing an Internet update. 7:56pm

Got the boys tucked in bed with their prayers. Shortly thereafter I head out to pick up Abby from youth group. Since Claire had those other delays earlier, she stayed home. Now just a bit o' reading and time to get some sleep. 9:29pm
