Driver's Ed

Posted by Scott at 11:59 PM

Good morning! Since we went to Mass last night, we slept in a bit. Michelle dropped Claire off at work and we took the boys for breakfast at DFE. 9:30am

Now I'm shopping reviews of color ink jet printers. We've had laser printers for over a decade because they're so much less expensive, but the kids want to be able print some of their reports (esp. PowerPoint slides) in color. 10:06am

Ordered our 1st color ink jet printer in many years. (another Brother) Because of the kids, also ordered a bunch o' spare ink cartridges. I specifically looked for a model where the cartridges didn't cost an arm and a leg. I don't like "the razor blade model" of selling ink jet printers, (i.e. sell the printer for dirt cheap and make up the profits in expensive ink cartridges). 10:58am

Oh my goodness, where's my insulin? The Baby Bunny video on YouTube. This sent Michelle and the kids into cute overload. Warning: it doubles as an ear worm that might stick in your brain for a while. 11:30pm

Pick Axe book Ordered the pick axe book for Timothy. It's a nickname for one of the popular books of Ruby programmers. He's nearly done with the book most Ruby folks use to learn the language and I thought he deserved the more advanced book. I only wish I had more time to learn Ruby with him. Perl is my main scripting language for work. It tends to look clunky compared to Ruby. Michelle picked up Claire from work and brought us back some hot drinks. 3:58pm

Relaxing afternoon. The boys and I got to enjoy some reading. I started a new book, Frank Sheed's Christian classic "Theology and Sanity". I also enjoyed hearing Abby practice her clarinet. Usually she practices at school with the band or before I get home from work. 5:00pm

Just got back from taking Claire's first driver's ed class with her. As I suspected might happen, it made me my more conscious of my own driving flaws. I guess one thing they get very sensitive about is the placement of the hands during steering, especially now that all steering wheels have airbags. There hasn't been a lot of education of the public about how the presence of airbags impacts how you steer. 8:20pm

Said prayers with the family and sent the boys to bed. I watched the new Dr. Who episode again, this time with Abby who was out last night. She agreed that this was a fun one. When the season was opening, my boys were scared to start watching Dr. Who again because of some of the scarier episodes in the past. This “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” episode helped them see the fun side of the show. 9:45pm

“Thus says the LORD:
Say to those whose hearts are frightened:
Be strong, fear not!
Here is your God,
he comes with vindication;
with divine recompense
he comes to save you.”
Isaiah 35
