Teacher Passing
Good morning! It's the start of another week of work and school. And it's a chilly one at that now that we're officially in autumn: sunny, but low 40's outside. I dropped the older four off at their schools and head down to Boxborough listening to The Good Fight along the commute. Michelle drops Timothy off and teaches her Step 'n Abs class.
We got some sad news this morning that Mr. Robert Foster, 7th grade teacher of social studies at Milford Middle School passed away. I don't have official reports but word is that he had a heart attack while hiking this weekend. Counselors are being brought to the school.
2,000 in staff riot at iPhone's Chinese 'sweatshop' factory after 'guard beats up worker'. I blame everyone who stands in line and insists on having a new iPhone5 on opening day. Honestly I like the iPhone5, but this vanity of being among the first to show off your new iPhone causes a demand spike that is hard to fulfill without excesses at the factories that assemble them.
Forget the watch made from previous gen iPod Nano. This is the best Nano hack yet. Replace the little built in clock in an older Accord or Odyssey with the Nano. Then you have a clock and easy access to your audio library.
Proud of my Adreno A320, a graphics engine we taped out about 15 months ago. See "Egypt HD" benchmark here. While the media often focuses on the graphics of Apple and NVidia, they say,
Egypt HD was the great equalizer when we first met it, but the iPhone 5 does very well here. The biggest surprise however is just how well the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro with Adreno 320 GPU does by comparison. LG's Optimus G, a device Brian flew to Seoul, South Korea to benchmark, is hot on the heels of the new iPhone.
When we run everything at 1080p the iPhone 5 looks a lot like the new iPad, and is about 2x the performance of the Galaxy S3. Here, LG's Optimus G actually outperforms the iPhone 5! It looks like Qualcomm's Adreno 320 is quite competent in a phone.

Is Tim Tebow a Chauvinist? Well if you don't look at Tebow's statement about "a wife with a 'servant's heart' " with a Christian lens, it can appear that way. It could feed every feminists outrage about a stereotypical Stepford wife. Tim has a servant's heart and wants a wife who does too.
Didn't leave work until 7:15. Was a bit sad that the bug I was debugging today did not get resolved by the time I'd left. Can't go into details. When I got home, Michelle and the kids were watching the season opening of Dancing with the Stars All-Stars.
Doing more study for Wednesday's RCIA. Meanwhile my laptop is running both Handbrake and 'brew upgrade'. Translation: the cooling fan is getting a workout. Both tend to kick in the fan, but running them at the same time?!
