Sleepless in Milford

Posted by Scott at 11:04 PM

I'm just a bit wired tonight. I spent most of the time tonight online at Southwest and Travelocity booking plane tickets (more about that later) while drinking hot tea. Between the anxiety and caffeine, I need to write a bit to unwind.

Rain - This weekend was a bit of a drag. It rained until Sunday 4PM. Not heavy, just steady, don't-want-to-play-outside rain. Claire and Abby were wondering if it still counted as TV Turnoff Week. Nevertheless at least Claire had gymnastics on Saturday and Abby had a birthday to go to on Sunday.

Gameboy - Saturday evening Claire and I went to Target. My goal was to buy a second Gameboy, the more modern clamshell design, backlit Gameboy Advance SP model. We have the very early, original model (in Fuchsia no less!) and one of the newer clamshell designs. Michael tended to hog the newer model, leaving Daniel to squint at the older one. This morning when we showed Daniel the brand new one we bought for him, he was a happy camper. That thing was practically fused to his hand all day. I suspect Michael was a bit jealous. So now you tend to see them each with a newer SP model. Michael's is the original Cobalt (ie. blue) and Daniel's is the newer Flame (ie. red). I don't know why, but somehow I find the Gameboys less annoying than seeing them with their Leapsters.

Errands - We piled the kids in the van to run a few errands today. We had to pick up Abby from the birthday party. I stopped at the Home Depot but they had none of the things I needed. Lastly we took the kids to the Merrimack Burger King because it has a decent play area. Compared to the one or two kids most parents bring there, I always feel like we're swarming the place.

Odd Jobs - I had a few very minor honey-do's today. Michelle had a headlight go out on her van, so I replaced that. Also, once the rain started to lighten up, it became imperative to prep the Mosquito Magnet for another season. It was a bit difficult to get going but after a few pathway cleanouts, the propane and air flowed correctly and it started up.

Plane tickets - Most of this evening was spent online, consulting with Michelle, a calendar, and my Visa. I purchased seven round trips from Manchester to Chicago and three round trips from Chicago to the Los Angeles area. It was hard not to be stressed out after doing that. We're going to spend some serious money, but I couldn't convince Michelle that driving the van to Chicago would be worth the money saved.

That's about it for the weekend. The writing has been a bit therapeutic. Feel free to write me about your weekend. I'm going to try to get some sleep. Monday mornings are always our busiest…
