Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 09:23 PM

Good morning! Going to working from home today after I drop the girls off. My boss had something come up last minute and my teammate is out on paternity leave. Why spend two hours in the car if no one will be at the office? 6:04am

Took my sweetie for lunch and a coffee run. Now she's on her way to get zapped and I'm back to debug. This misty rain is a bit depressing today. 12:31am

Geek hell: debugging fixed point/precision math when there aren't comments noting the precision used. 2:19pm

Just announced: Big Bang Theory will return to CBS in the fall. [via The Big Bang Theory Facebook page] So, it's doing better than FlashForward. ;-}. 5:53pm

At Milford Middle School with the family to hear Abby perform in the annual spring concert. 7:05pm

Bookmarks I made today:

S4 - Super Simple Storage Service
Comment: As an Amazon S3 user, this parody had me LMAO. The site looks so real and authentic. "Write only storage". Bwa-ha-ha. Reminds me of an old joke we used to have about designing "write only memory".
Excerpt: The Super Simple Storage Service (S4) is a new innovation in cloud storage. Our advanced write-only storage provides the highest security, lowest cost, and simplest management available.

Apple, Adobe, and Openness: Let's Get Real
Comment: I've seen a fair amount of debate about Apple's recent iPhone policies, but this one actually sounds plausible. Apple has been burned in the past with many of its innovations being quickly subsumed by other markets. Postscript, Photoshop, Filemaker, Excel, PowerPoint... these were all big on the Mac before they were ported to Windows environments.
Excerpt: I believe it's Apple's policy to keep iPhone and iPad developers as closely tied to the platform as possible, and to make it as hard as possible for them to move their products elsewhere. I think that's the core reason why Apple won't permit Flash, or any other third party platform, to run on iPhone...

Amherst Orthodontics @ blogspot.com
Comment: My kids' orthodontists are blogging.
Excerpt: The goal of our blog is to get to know our patients and parents. We love sharing the important things going on in our lives and would love to hear from you.

Google Wave Now Open to Everyone
Comment: Now everyone can see how worthless it is, and see why we "early adopters" did a collective yawn. [Oops, I'm sorry. Was I channeling my inner dialog again?]
Excerpt: Google Wave now lets anyone with a Google account to jump in and see what the early adopters have been squawking (and snarking) about. Head to wave.google.com now to get Waving, but read on for some beginner tips and use cases.

Power Play Over Immigration Law
Comment: Oh NOW, this is getting delicious.
Excerpt: An Arizona utility commissioner said he's willing to pull the plug on Los Angeles if the city goes through with a boycott of his state.
